This year, the Emu Gully Air & Land Spectacular will have a focus on WW1, with a 100 Year Commemoration of the Landing at Gallipoli.
The Emu Gully Air & Land Spectacular is Australia's largest re-enactment of Anzac history. The event is held at Helidon Spa in Queensland's Lockyer Valley. This year, the Patriot motorcycle club consisting of current-serving and former Defence Force personnel will be assisting Emu Gully with the event.
In addition to the displays and pyrotechnics, the show is very interactive this year with a lot of smaller interplays between re-enactors and spectators. For a modest fee, participants can experience something of the drama and tension in the trenches. They will be issued with earplugs and skirmish helmets and come under "fire", experiencing the excitement and "danger" of going over the top.
The action on the ground will be matched by excitement in the skies, as the Red Baron does battle with the famous Allied Nieuport Scout. Troops and mounted infantry provide a very real portrayal of our troops on the ground as they fight in the gullies and trenches.
There will be stalls with some real bargains, coffee and modestly priced food for the family, as well as some great static displays of military equipment and encampments.
The event includes a live brass band, rides for the kids, an "animals that went to war nursery" and much more, that together provide an educational, inspirational and highly entertaining event.
